For many employees, the ability to work remotely is more important than salary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But why? What are the benefits of remote work for employees? And what about for you, as their employer? Let\u2019s take a look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Employees<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">There\u2019s No Commute<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The average commute in the UK takes up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tuc.org.uk\/news\/annual-commuting-time-18-hours-compared-decade-ago-finds-tuc\">an hour of a person\u2019s day<\/a>. That\u2019s an extra hour they could spend with their families, working, or catching up on some sleep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When employees have more time to themselves, they\u2019re less stressed and can therefore complete their work faster and to a higher level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">They Have More Time with Their Children and Pets<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When employees have children, flexible working makes it easier for them to drop their children off at school and pick them up. When they work remotely, they lose less time travelling between home, school, work, and back again. This saves them hours of time every week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.banfield.com\/about-us\/news-room\/press-releases-announcements\/banfield-shares-data-on-the-positive-impact-of-pet\">88% of employees who have pets<\/a>, meanwhile, say that pets in the workplace improves morale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Offering them remote working not only achieves this but also gives them the chance to play with, or walk, pets at lunchtimes, which can help with their mental health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Employees that don\u2019t worry about their children and pets are both happier and more productive, which helps you to achieve your bottom line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">They\u2019re in Their Own Environment<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While open-plan offices are everywhere, they\u2019re actually bad for productivity. They\u2019re noisy, there\u2019s always someone who\u2019s too hot or too cold, and the lighting in them can affect some people\u2019s eyesights. The bigger the open-plan office, the harder it is to find the Goldilocks environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The right environment plays a huge role in productivity levels and should never be underestimated. Small changes in temperature, lighting, and noise, can negatively affect employees and mean they\u2019re unhappier in their roles and more likely to leave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When employees are in their own environment, they\u2019re in control. That means everything from the room temperature to where they\u2019re sitting is up to them \u2013 they don\u2019t have to sacrifice their own comfort in favour of something that works for their colleagues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Employers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">You Have a Wider Talent Pool to Choose From<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Choosing the right talent is imperative but increasingly difficult in a candidate-driven market with a high employment rate. Offering remote working means that you don\u2019t have to choose from the best local candidates \u2013 they could live hundreds of miles away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because you\u2019ve hired based on skill set and not proximity, you\u2019re more likely to get the best person for the role first time. They also avoid stressful commutes which eat into an average of five hours every week.
